Claiming Identity

Key Verse: “You are precious in my eyes, and honored, and I love you.” (Isaiah 43:4)
Not for the moment or for the day, the question of what we want to be known for presses in. The question is often asked of individuals what do they want to be known for? Recently, I had the conversation with some church people asking the question “what is this church known for.” Though seemingly an easy enough question the answer is a little tougher.
Do the answers that we give in our own identity exhibit the call and plans of God on our life. Are we claiming our identity in God, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. I love how the New Living Translation of scripture describes 2 Corinthians 4:7 and our value that is found in God and in our relationship with Jesus: “We now have this light shining in our hearts, but we ourselves are like fragile clay jars containing this great treasure. This makes it clear that our great power is from God, not from ourselves.”
Hmmm, without God we are nothing more than empty vessels. Void of God in our life, even though we might have earthly riches, notoriety, everything we need, but are these things eternal?
God’s love gives us value, purpose, and identity. We are precious to Him, not because of what we do, but because of who we are—His creation, redeemed through Jesus. His love secures our worth in a way the world never can.
Reflection: Meditate on your worth in God’s eyes. Claim your own identity in God, not someone else’s. How can you live in response to His love this week?
