Key Verse: “I, I am the Lord, and besides me there is no savior.” (Isaiah 43:11)
This morning in the early waking moments of the day the line from the hymn “When the Roll is Called Up Yonder” was laid on my heart. I thought that is a different first thought for the day until I read the scripture for the morning from Isaiah 43:11.
Isaiah 43:11 declares, “I, even I, am the Lord, and apart from me there is no savior.” This verse reminds us of the individual power and authority of God as our Redeemer—the only One who can save us. It’s a profound declaration and promise of His role as the Savior of all who place their trust in Him.
The hymn “When the Roll Is Called Up Yonder” vividly portrays the fulfillment of God’s promise to gather His redeemed. The opening line speaks of the glorious day when the trumpet of the Lord shall sound, signaling the end of time and the dawn of eternity. On that morning, bright and eternal, the saved of earth will gather on the “other shore”—a beautiful visual for our heavenly home.
Together, these words paint a picture of hope and assurance. Isaiah assures us of God’s saving power, while the hymn reminds us of the joyous culmination of that salvation. The sounding trumpet signals the moment when all who are written in the Lamb’s Book of Life will experience their eternal reward. It is not by our works or merit, by how much money we have, not even by how much we have done or haven’t done, or anything else, but through God’s grace as our Savior that we will experience redemption.
Are we living each day with this promise in our hearts—seeking to honor the One who saves and desires for us to not only experience the promise and best life in eternity, but the best life that is available in the here and now. May we always remember that our salvation rests solely in the Lord, the One who declares, “There is no savior apart from Me.”
God boldly declares that salvation is found in Him alone. This truth is fulfilled in Jesus, who said, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me” (John 14:6). His sacrifice on the cross demonstrates God’s power and love, showing that no one else can redeem us.
Reflection: Are you fully trusting in Jesus as your Savior? This Lent, surrender any areas of doubt, self-reliance and sinfulness and rest in the sufficiency of Christ.
