My Lord and My God
Pastor Calvin Cook
Scripture: John 20:29
“Jesus said to him, ‘Have you believed because you have seen me? Blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed.’”
Thomas wasn’t there the first time Jesus appeared to the disciples after the resurrection. When they told him, “We have seen the Lord,” he couldn’t bring himself to believe. Maybe he didn’t want to get his hopes up. Maybe he was too hurt. Too disappointed. Too full of doubt.
Can you relate?
Have you ever asked these questions:
“I doubt God hears me.”
“I doubt things will ever change.”
“I doubt I’m really forgiven.”
Jesus didn’t rebuke Thomas harshly. He came back—Jesus showed up, just for Thomas—and invited Thomas to touch His wounds. And when Thomas finally saw Jesus for himself, he didn’t just say “I believe.” He declared, “My Lord and my God.” A personal confession. A surrender of doubt. A moment of awe.
Jesus answered him: “Blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed.” That’s us. He sees our questions, our fear, and yes—even our doubt—and still calls us blessed when we choose to trust Him anyway.
You may not see His face or touch His hands today, but He is here. Still patient. Still present. Still offering peace.
Jesus is looking straight into your soul today and saying – I am here, my presence and my Spirit that I have breathed on you is the proof, reach out, touch, feel, accept, and know!
Let today be the day you say from the depths of your soul:
“My Lord and my God.”
