What Is Jesus Showing Up to Do?

Scripture: “That very day two of them were going to a village named Emmaus… While they were talking and discussing together, Jesus himself drew near and went with them. But their eyes were kept from recognizing him. And he said to them, ‘What is this conversation that you are holding with each other as you walk?’” — Luke 24:13-17
The road to Emmaus is a powerful reminder of how Jesus meets us right where we are. Two disciples are walking in confusion, grief, and disappointment, they are walking away from what happened in Jerusalem. Hope seems absent. But Jesus shows up—not in glory or power, but quietly, walking beside them, entering into their conversation and pain.
But here’s the key: Jesus didn’t just show up to bring comfort—He showed up to call them beyond themselves.
As He walked with them, He opened their hearts to Scripture, revealed God’s bigger story, and gave them hope and purpose once again. When their eyes were finally opened to recognize Him, their response was not to stay where they were in comfort but to go back to Jerusalem and share the news. Even though it was late in the day, they rushed back to tell the others: “The Lord has risen indeed!”
This is the invitation Jesus gives us today. Yes, He comes to comfort us when we’re hurting, to walk beside us when we’re confused. But He also comes to move us beyond ourselves—to call us into His mission, to share the good news that Jesus is alive.
Where is Jesus showing up in your life today? And where might He be calling you to go, to speak, to share Him with others? Let Jesus showing up not only heal you—but send you.
We all have something to do for Jesus today, now lets do it !
