What Are We Waiting For? A morning devotional From the Edges

What Are We Waiting For?
Pastor Calvin Cook – May 27, 2025

Acts 1:3 & 4 He presented himself alive to them after his suffering by many proofs, appearing to them for forty days and speaking about the kingdom of God. 4 And while staying with them he ordered them not to depart from Jerusalem, but to wait for the promise of the Father, which, he said, “you heard from me”

I have never been very good about waiting. Especially when there is an anticipation of something great and exciting happening.
I’ve thought about this scripture repeatedly over the years, where Jesus tells his followers to go back to Jerusalem and wait, for the next big thing, that has never happened before or will never happen again.

The believers in Acts 1 seem to have allowed the doubt to vanish that was mentioned in Matthew 28:17. Now, here in Acts 1 Luke writes saying that the followers returned to Jerusalem to wait. Yes, there were questions of anticipation of what would take place, “Jesus will you give the final punch?” – and I almost feel this morning as the essence of what Jesus had been doing is explained that there was more, so much more to happen.

I believe with all my heart that that power of the Holy Spirit is once again about to be revealed. Actually, the Holy Spirit is already being revealed, always has, always will, but some are not noticing or receiving. Is it because we have become comfortable in waiting. We have paused for so long that we have become complacent to the move of the Holy Spirit that is springing forth in many places and many ways.

Friends, we have been praying for revival, it is time to be a conduit of that revival. It is time to move into the next phase of revival and take seriously the call of the “great commission”. To take back what the enemy has stolen from us. If it is to happen, it will have to be us that will make it happen.

The truth is, we are either too caught up in ourselves, or waiting for some big flashing neon sign to give us directions to move forward, or and you can add in your own excuse. The final season of waiting is upon us. It is time for all of us to get our act together, return to what is important, to shake the gates of hell and become the people we are called to be.
