STILL WAITING! But for how long?

STILL WAITING

Pastor Calvin Cook – June 20, 2025

Scripture focus –  Habakkuk 2:2-3 And the Lord answered me: “Write the vision: make it plain on tablets, so he may run who reads it. For still the vision awaits its appointed time; it hastens to the end – it will not lie. If it seems slow, “wait for it; it will surely come; it will not delay.”

But wait ! There is still more !

The last couple of days as I have listened to preaching, and observing all of the happenings in worship at the AWAC Annual Conference – and hearing the theme “Start Planting” , I have once again been filled with a Spirit filled hope with expectancy of what God will be dong with the Church, but in particular with me and the local communities I have been called to serve. But it isn’t just a local as the Great Commission says it is to the “outer most parts of the world.”  It is about building something much bigger that was created to happen before the very foundations of the world were established. But yet we seem to be trying the what and how before experiencing with all of our hearts, minds, and souls everything that is meant to come into existence.  We are still waiting but why?

There is tension in waiting. Between understanding the vision that the Holy Spirit has given and is still giving us and expecting us to do something with it.  Yet we still pray the prayers we have always prayed, still do the things in the ways that we have always done them, and still expect God to do it all for us and forget the through us part.

The Old Testament prophet Habakkuk in the old testament book named for him has this conversation with God.  In the opening verses  of Chapter 2 – Habakkuk proclaims he will stand ready to respond, posturing himself with a willingness to listen for the direction.

The answer comes in a couple of the verses I shared this morning. Even though Habakkuk had questions, God had the answers with instructions ; know the vision, wait for the appointed time, and do not delay.   Friends the time is now ! To set aside everything and move powerfully to the place and ministry we are called to go and who we are called to be. The time is now. The period of waiting is over !

The same Spirit that hovered over the water in the opening verses of Genesis, who led the captives out of Israel, who filled the room at Pentecost, is still, to this moment in history still moving, and still moving powerfully. The wait is over ! The wait is over! The wait is over! Yes I know I said that three times hoping that it will stick with you.

God’s vision for your life , for your family, for your community and especially for the church is right here! Waiting for you to respond !

The vision awaits it appointed time- and though we might still be waiting – The Holy Spirit is here and is right on time !
