Make Room – Thoughts From the Edges while following Jesus.

Make Room –

Pastor Calvin Cook

Look carefully then how you walk, not as unwise but as wise, 16making the best use of the time, because the days are evil. 17Therefore do not be foolish but understand what the will of the Lord is. 18And do not get drunk with wine, for that is debauchery, but be filled with the Spirit Ephesians 5:15-18

This morning the scripture from Ephesians 5 and the song “Make Room” is on my heart as I consider my relationship with God – Father, Son, and Holy Spirit and if I am in the good and perfect will of God. Not living out what I want to do but what God has called and continues to call me to.

Time seems to be going so fast, yesterday I was in the little country church I grew up and today I find myself miles away serving God in a very different way. Over the last 60 years of my life, I have been through a lot of changes both good and bad. This morning’s reflection has caused me to ask the question “am I within the will of God.”

As time keeps moving on – can we evaluate honestly where we have been and that which we have yet to do. In Ephesians 5 the Apostle Paul is suggesting that we not be time wasters but to be very careful and mindful of how we live. We are called to live wisely, to live with intention, and to take the most on every God given opportunity.

It is so easy to let the days slip by, consumed with work, obligations, distractions, busyness, or even good things that are not God things. Paul reminds us” the days are evil not just in sinfulness, but in those things that draw us away from God’s purposes. That is why we need to pray, “Lord, teach me to use my time well”

As I shared earlier this week from Lamentations, we now have the opportunity of a new day, to use our time wisely. The past is past, that has find forgiveness and experience redemption for our sins and mistakes and strive to move to the place that God has called us to. Every day becomes a change to live on purpose. Don’t just fill your calendar – fulfill your calling. Invite the Holy Spirit to direct your steps and be amazed at what God wants to do in your life.

Knowing the words of the song “Make Room” might not be a bad idea –

And I will make room for you – To do whatever You want to-
Here is where I lay it down, Every burden, every crown, This is my surrender –

May Jesus have His way in all our lives today as we surrender all to Jesus.
