What is Your All in All – Thoughts From the Edges –

Is All That We Do God-Honoring and Glorifying?

“So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.” — 1 Corinthians 10:31 (NIV)

I am pushing pause on the devotional train I have recently been riding from Isaiah 54, will return to that soon or intermittingly as I try to stay true to how I hear the Holy Spirit speaking and prompting.

As you know we were away last week, so I pushed pause on many things just to be present with God, with Gail, and with some of the things that I have been wrestling with. One of those things has been continually in my regular prayer and meditation time has been asking the question : Is all that I/We (the church) do God honoring and glorifying ? The answer should be Yes! But is it really? In our daily lives, if we are claiming that – is all that we do for the purpose of the mission of God or “Missio Deo”.

Every day, from the moment we wake to the moment we close our eyes, we make countless choices — what we say, how we respond, where we invest our time, and how we treat others.

The question for each of us as followers of Christ should be this: Does what I’m doing honor and glorify God?

The Apostle Paul’s words remind us that everything—even the most ordinary acts like eating or drinking—can be done in a way that reflects God’s goodness. It’s not just about going to church on Sunday. Or about filling our lives with countless self serving activities – it is about honoring God, glorifying God, and striving to be closer to God.  Need I remind you from Acts 2:42 what the early followers of Jesus were devoted to which became the foundation of the movement of God through what we call church.

If we look at our life as an offering – everything that we present with our tithes, financial gifts, service, talent,  and even how or why we worship should have the ultimate goal of honoring God, glorifying God and being in that mission with God, which we can speak more about later. The basis being sharing the Gospel to all people everywhere.

To honor God means to recognize His worth in every aspect of life. To glorify Him means to shine His light through our actions so that others see Him through us. When our hearts are aligned with His Spirit, even the simplest acts become sacred.

The way we speak, how we are drawn to discerning the Spirits leading, the way we worship, the heart for God and others through the way we love and so much more, so many other attributes of our faithfulness.

• Do my words and actions point others toward Jesus or toward myself?

 • Am I seeking recognition for what I do, or am I seeking to make God known?

 • What areas of my life still need to be surrendered so that God can be glorified in them?

Prayer:  Lord, teach me to live each moment in a way that honors You. Let my thoughts, my words, and my actions reflect Your character and bring You glory. May my life be a living testimony of Your grace and truth. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

 Some other scriptures to consider:

 • Colossians 3:17 — “And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him.”

 • Matthew 5:16 — “Let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.”

 • Romans 12:1 — “Offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship.”
