God Honoring and Glorifying- Thoughts from the Edges

Is All That We Do God-Honoring and Glorifying?

I recently asked in a sermon. Is All That We Do God Honoring and Glorifying? I went on to apply this to our individual lives and even the life of the church. The quick answer would be yes, but I would caution against quick diagnosis.

Every day, from the moment we wake up to the moment we close our eyes, we make countless choices. Including what we say, how we respond, where we invest our time, and how we treat others. Going deeper to self, the inner thoughts and motives must be included in this discussion. As the motives of our heart will guide our outward view.  The question for each of us as followers of Christ is this: Does what I’m doing honor and glorify God?

In 1 Corinthians 10:31 we read — “So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.” (NIV) The Apostle Paul’s words remind us that everything, even the most ordinary acts like eating or drinking, can be done in a way that reflects God’s goodness. It’s not just about Sunday worship or serving in the church. God is glorified in the unseen, everyday moments: how we speak to others, how we handle frustration, how we work, how we relax and how we love others.

The other part of the thoughts I have this morning is that we do not receive just for ourselves, to comfort or make us happy, but that all that is given is given to be used for God’s glory. Everyday in the eternal plan of God, I believe there is something more that we should be focusing on. Maybe it is sharing Jesus with someone who does not know. A prayer for someone in person that is struggling through a life situation. A cup a coffee with a friend. A call or visit to someone you haven’t spoke with in a while. So much to do and we are not assured of how much time we have left to do it.

To honor God means to recognize His worth in every aspect of life. To glorify Him means to shine His light through our actions so that others see Him through us. When our hearts are aligned with His Spirit, even the simplest acts become sacred.

Prayer: Lord, teach me to live each moment in a way that honors You. Let my thoughts, my words, and my actions reflect Your character and bring You glory. May my life be a living testimony of Your grace and truth. In Jesus’ name, Amen

Some further reflection questions:

• Do my words and actions point others toward Jesus or toward myself?

•  Am I seeking recognition for what I do, or am I seeking to make God known?

• What areas of my life still need to be surrendered so that God can be glorified in them?
