Have Seen a Great Light – Isaiah 9:2 (Part 2)

Isaiah 9:2 — “The people who walked in darkness have seen a great light…”

This second morning focusing on Isaiah 9:2 brings me to consider a couple of thoughts about the presence of God. I thought this morning about stepping into the shelter of God which is mentioned several places in scripture which we will talk more about Friday.

What does it mean to see the “great light”? It seems in considering these words from Isaiah’s prophecy that the people were unable to see or find the light. But that God in loving kindness broke into the darkness and became the Light. Guess you could say the Light found them.

This Light is Jesus—revealed, incarnate, and shining into every shadow.

But seeing the light and following the light are not the same thing.

Many see the truth but fail to embrace it. Many acknowledge Jesus but do not walk behind Him. Some admire the light from a distance without ever letting it change their lives.

We must ask ourselves:

If we’ve seen the Light… are we following Him?

If we’ve heard His voice… are we obeying?

If we’ve experienced His grace… are we living in it daily?

This Light – the triune God – Father, Son, and Holy Spirit,  reveals, guides, warms, exposes, and saves—but only if we choose to walk in it. Jesus said, “Whoever follows Me will not walk in darkness.” Seeing the Light is God’s gift. Following the Light is our response.

Step into God this morning, the Light, the Saving power, the forgiveness, the redemption, most of all peace and contentment that can only be found in Jesus.

Part 3 on Isaiah 9:2 tomorrow.
