Is God still Speaking? Are We still Listening?

IS GOD SPEAKING?

Is God still speaking to us personally? Are we hearing what God is saying? Are we following God’s direction?

I believe with all my heart that God is still speaking.

Recently, as I’ve walked with people going through some heavy and painful days, I’ve found myself returning again and again to one simple encouragement: “God is with you. Trust Him. Do not be afraid.” I could have said a thousand other things, but in those holy moments, that was enough.

As my heart prepares to preach on the Way of Love this week, I keep circling back to the words spoken by the angel to both Mary and Joseph: “Do not be afraid.”

In Luke 1:30 we read: “But the angel said to her, ‘Do not be afraid, Mary; you have found favor with God.’”

And in Matthew 1:20, we hear the angel speak into Joseph’s confusion and fear: “Joseph son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary home as your wife, because what is conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit.”

Those words are echoing in my soul today—do not be afraid.

We are, if we’re honest, a people living with a constant undercurrent of fear. Fear about tomorrow. Fear about finances. Fear about health, about failure, about being alone, about not being enough. Fear can dull our senses. Fear can drown out the voice of God. It can leave us so full of our own noise, desires, opinions, and plans that we no longer hear God whispering truth over us:

“You are beloved.”

“You have been bought with a price.”

“You are mine.”

Mary and Joseph found favor with God. Why? Not because they were perfect, but because they were willing—devoted, faithful, available. I wonder if that is where many of us struggle today. We have placed our trust in so many other things that we no longer make room, in prayer or stillness, to allow God to speak. To hear Him say, “I’ve got this.”

Yes, God is still speaking. But perhaps we have grown used to hearing only what we want to hear.

So today, let’s pray. Let’s humble ourselves long enough to be still before the Lord. Let’s turn off the noise—external and internal—and listen.

God is speaking.

The question is: are we listening?
