Generational Faith
Virginia Wells
Read: 2 Timothy 1:3-7
Generational sincere faith seems to be a theme in this scripture. Paul mentions his forefathers serving God, as does he. He refers to a sincere faith in Grandmother (Lois), mother (Eunice) and in Timothy, Generational.
I grew up in a large family, there were 10 kids. My mom was the most impactful on my faith, she not only spoke it, but she also lived it. I remember different times seeing her in her rocker praying for one of us who were “working on our testimony”. Her trust in God when things weren’t going well for our family reminds me about verse 7. “God did not give us a spirit of timidity, but a spirit of power, love and of self-discipline.” Guess where she learned her faith…her mother.
I pray I have imparted that same faith in my children. I can relate when Paul says he prays for Timothy night and day. What if you don’t have kids? There are other ways to be around young people to influence them. I can think of a few such as after school program, Sunday school, youth group. God can use you as a witness wherever He places you.
What happens if you don’t have that generational base? Be the start of that base, break the cycle of your past, give your children a base that will lead them to a life with Christ. The Holy Spirit that lives in you will guide you, remember power, love and self-discipline.
Prayer – God, use me as Your light to show the way for the youth, that they know without a shadow of doubt how much You love them and desire a relationship with them. Amen
