Devotional: The God Who Watches Over You
How many of us can say we’ve lived a life free of struggles or personal challenges? Not a single one of us. Every person carries burdens—some visible, some hidden, some so heavy we can barely take the next step. And yet, how often do we shrug and say, “Well, this is my cross to bear,” and push through the day trying to fix everything on our own?
Sometimes it’s pride. Sometimes it’s fear, shame, or the desire to keep our struggles private. Sometimes we fear being misunderstood. Whatever the reason, we slip into “superhuman mode,” determined to handle life ourselves. I can almost imagine God watching me with a gentle shake of His head saying, “Take off that cape, Annie, and come sit at My feet.” But coping alone is not what God wants for us.
Psalm 121 reminds us that God is our support system—steadfast, attentive, and always present. His hotline is available 24/7. Prayer is our direct line to Him, even on the days when all we can whisper is His name: “Jesus.” That whisper is enough. He hears it. He responds to it. He meets us in it. We are never alone in our struggles. When we learn to call on Him at the first sign of trouble, the problem becomes lighter—not because the problem disappears, but because He helps carry the load. Sometimes He carries us entirely, wiping away tears and calming our hearts like the Good Father He is.
Psalm 121 paints this picture beautifully: a God who watches over His children, who protects, shields, guides, and never sleeps on the job. He offers love, safety, and the assurance that no matter what storm rises, we do not stand in it alone. He is with us—now, tomorrow, and forever.
So, the next time fear creeps in, or loneliness settles heavy on your shoulders, or the day feels overwhelming, pause. Call on your Father. Speak His name. He will answer, because He always does.
