Seeing in the Dark – A Devotional from Darkness to Light –

As we begin our journey towards Easter this week, asking you to take a few minutes to consider the words of Virginia Wells in this morning’s devotional. Are we ready and willing to step into the light and follow where the Holy Spirit is leading us?

From Darkness to Light

by Virginia Wells

Read: Isaiah 42: 1-9

Have you ever gone from a bright room to a room with a nightlight for illumination? At first it seems so hard to see anything, darkness everywhere.  Sometimes it seems that way in the world today, darkness everywhere. It’s in times like this I need to stop, take a moment and let my eyes adjust. Where do I see God’s light?

When I begin to let go of my vision and see through His vision, I see light.  Like the nightlight, it starts small but the more I look the brighter it gets. Isaiah 42:6&7 says “I the Lord, have called you in righteousness; I will take hold of your hand. I will keep you and will make you to be a covenant for the people and a light for the Gentiles, to open eyes that are blind, to free captives from prison and to release from the dungeon those who sit in darkness.”

When we become a member of God’s family (salvation) we carry the light of Christ in us. God invites us to join Him in spreading that light through action. The Holy Spirit is within us and will equip us to follow God’s direction.  Could you imagine how amazing it would be if we all stepped up, allowed God to work through us to spread His light in our part of the world.  The light would become more than the darkness, joy more than despair, peace more than fighting, love more than hurt.  Our children and grandchildren would have a legacy of great wealth.

Prayer: God, When the darkness takes over, help me see Your light. Open my eyes to the opportunity to be Your light to others.  Amen

Action step: Where do you see God working, how can you join Him?
