Waiting –
Scripture focus – Psalm 37:7 ESV
Be still before the Lord and wait patiently for him; fret not yourself over the one who prospers in his way, over the man who carries out evil devices!

It seems that we spend much of our time waiting. I also realize that the one who waits can be classified in two specific categories: the patient and the inpatient. We have become so accustomed to having everything instantly without much waiting involved. I am fearful that our impatience will prove harmful.

There are many instances in scripture were waiting proved faithful. Abraham and Sara waited 25 years for their promised son, Joseph spent time in the oppression of Egypt before being raised and finding and showing forgiveness to his brothers, how long did the Israelites wonder around the wilderness waiting for their deliverance and promised land. These are just a few instances of waiting. Probably the one that speaks greatest was God’s people waiting for the promised Messiah in the coming of Jesus. So caught up in their waiting and impatience Jesus could not be recognized by most as the promised Messiah, that the wait was over.

I have also learned that when we wait, we tend to focus on others who are waiting. Take for instance in a restaurant, when we see others who came into the restaurant after us and receive their food before us. We become impatient by being concerned with others around us. Maybe our food takes longer to prepare, maybe the others called ahead, whatever the reason, waiting usually has a purpose.

What about in our faith journey are we patiently waiting for the will of God to be delivered. Are we questioning why God’s plan does not suit our idea of a response time. Where and when will we be delivered from this impatience? It will only happen in complete surrender!

There are some things I’m waiting for: Revival – I know that revival is being launched in certain places, but I’m praying for revival in the midst of where I live. Deliverance – I pray every day for deliverance from the evil things that distract me and you from moving fully into God’s grace. People to turn back to God – our life will not change until we fully turn back to God without doubt or fear of God’s plan for our life. There are many other things I’m waiting for in prayer to happen. I know it will maybe not happen in my lifetime, but with patience we will wait with expectancy. While waiting we must do everything possible to be that agent of God inspired vision and fulfillment of the promises made.

Micah 7:7 says it best for me this morning ; “But as for me, I will look to the Lord; I will wait for the God of my salvation; my God will hear me.” Faith, trust, patience, salvation, and direction all wrapped into one little verse. May it be so in the mighty name of Jesus.
