From the Edges – Morning Devotions

Spirit led prayer –

Scripture focus – Romans 8 25-27  But if we hope for what we do not yet have, we wait for it patiently. 26 In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us through wordless groans. 27 And he who searches our hearts knows the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for God’s people in accordance with the will of God.

I have been reminded lately of our prayers being so devoted to physical and earthly attention.  My concern is that we so often neglect the prayers for ourselves and others to come to place of being fully committed to the will of God. Are we praying for the realization in our lives to see and experience this move of God that is happening in all of creation and allowing it to happen in our lives.  Proverbs 19:21 reads “Many are the plans in a man’s heart, but it is the Lord’s purpose that prevails.”

I realize that at times in our prayer lives we are not sure what we should be praying for. This morning, I am reassured that as we list our problems there comes a need to pray and seek direction for those things which are at the top of the list, believing that the Holy Spirit will intercede even when we are not sure. This is not a way to walk away from praying thinking that the Spirit will do it for us, but that we must make a commitment to receive the answers to prayers according to the will of God. I really believe that is why we pray “thy will be done” from the Lord’s prayer.

If we desire to see the health of our soul restored, then we should be praying and allowing the truth given us to be restoring us. If we are seeking revival, inclusive of our loved ones coming to abundant life that is found in Christ, then we should be following the guidance of Holy Spirit in the way we live our lives.  If we are seeking change, why do we want the change. Is it to satisfy our own earthly desires or is it for God’s glory.

Lord hear our prayers. Lord have mercy.
