When Doubt and Give-Up Take Over

Scripture Focus – Romans 15:13 “May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that by the power of the Holy Spirit you may abound in hope.”*
Thomas struggled with doubt, allowing a “give-up” attitude to take over. But haven’t we all found ourselves in that same place? At times, we may even make doubt our permanent residence. However, Thomas’ encounter with Jesus revived his mind, body, and spirit, shifting his perspective and renewing his trust in God’s plan.
When we allow doubt to dominate, we risk adopting a “give-up” mentality. This mindset causes us to surrender things that are vital for our forward movement. It all begins with a decision: What will we believe in? What will we choose to trust?
Are you prayerfully considering those areas in your life where doubt has taken root, believing that change for the better is possible?
Today, as a nation, we are called to transform our doubts about what this country can be into hope. For this transformation to happen, we must first seek God’s guidance and direction. Let us be filled with joy and peace, believing that through the power of the Holy Spirit, change is on the horizon.
But the change we seek depends on us—on who we are and what we prioritize. This transformation begins with our personal relationship with Jesus Christ, the Author and Perfecter of our faith.
On this National Day of Prayer, let us not give space to the enemy, who encourages us to doubt and give up. Instead, let us invite Jesus to breathe new life into us through the presence and guidance of the Holy Spirit.
Remember the words of 2 Chronicles 7:14: “If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and heal their land.”
