Devotional Title: “There’s Room for You”

From the heart of Pastor Calvin Cook
In recent devotionals we have been focusing on the time we need and the space we create to make room for God. Last evening I was reminded of the space that God is making for us.
Last evening I watched two young boys vying for a spot on their father’s lap. Each wanted to be held, to be chosen, to be close. They pushed and bantered, trying to claim the space. But their father, with a calm and loving voice, said:“There’s room for both of you. I have a big lap.”
At that moment it spoke to me. It felt like a whisper of the Holy Spirit. Isn’t that what God says to each of us?
I immediately thought of the words from John 14: “In my Father’s house are many rooms… I go to prepare a place for you.” — John 14:2
In a world that teaches scarcity—scarcity of love, attention, belonging—we often approach God with hesitation. We wonder if we’re too late, too broken, if we have done to much to be forgiven, too ordinary. But the Father’s lap is wide. His heart is spacious. His welcome is unending.
“He brought me out into a spacious place; he rescued me because he delighted in me.” — Psalm 18:19
God makes room for you.
Room for your story.
Room for your sorrow.
Room for your joy.
Room for your questions.
Room for your return.
And then comes the invitation:
Will you make room for God? Will you clear space in your schedule, your heart, your plans? Will you stop striving long enough to hear Him say, “Come to Me…”?
Right now, God is speaking to all of us saying there is plenty of room. We just have to be willing to hear the invitation – “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me… For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.” — Matthew 11:28–30
Jesus doesn’t just offer rest—He offers relationship. He doesn’t just prepare a place—He prepares a path. His yoke is easy not because life is light, but because He carries it with us. He walks beside us. He sits with us. He holds us.
The invitation is issued.
There’s room for you.
Will you make room for Him?
Prayer: Father, thank You for making room for me—not just in eternity, but in Your daily presence. Help me to stop pushing and striving, and instead rest in Your embrace. Teach me to make room for You in my heart, my time, my decisions. May I respond to Your invitation with joy and trust. Amen.
