Walking with Jesus

Scripture: “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.” — Proverbs 3:5–6
Today begins a new series of devotionals focused on what it truly means to walk with Jesus. What does it look like? What does it feel like? What does it mean to take seriously Christ’s invitation to follow Him every day?
I have been thinking about that question for most of my life.
As I look back, I can see seasons when I walked faithfully beside Jesus. There were also times when I drifted and pursued my own way—times that usually ended in disappointment or disaster. There were moments when the path ahead seemed clear, and other seasons when I felt like the Israelites wandering through the wilderness, searching for a destination that, in many ways, had been before me all along.
There have been days when others encouraged me for remaining faithful and days when criticism seemed much louder than encouragement. Yet through every season, one truth has remained constant. Even when I struggled to stay close to Jesus, I discovered that He never stopped walking with me. Many times, He carried me when I could no longer carry myself. I found the promised Holy Spirit faithfully strengthening, correcting, and guiding me. I experienced the steadfast love of our Heavenly Father holding everything together when I could not.
So here is the first question in our journey of walking with Jesus.
Are we willing to trust Him with all our hearts?
Proverbs reminds us that trusting God is at the very center of the journey. Trusting is not easy. Waiting patiently can be excruciating. Remaining faithful when we cannot see what lies ahead is often one of life’s greatest challenges.
Much of our struggle comes because we lean on our own understanding instead of God’s. We begin trusting our emotions, our opinions, or the voices around us more than the voice of the Lord. But the God who calls us to trust is Father, Son, and Holy Spirit—the one true God who faithfully leads, sustains, and transforms His people. When we recognize who He is, we can surrender our understanding and confidently follow where His Spirit leads.
I am excited to begin this journey together. Over the coming days, we will open God’s Word, learn to trust Him more deeply, and discover what it means to walk with Jesus in everyday life. It begins with a simple willingness—to walk with Jesus and to allow Him to walk with us through whatever we face.
The good news is that God’s mercies are new every morning. Right now, in these quiet moments of prayer and reflection, He is offering each of us a fresh measure of His grace. All He asks is that we are willing to take the next step with Him.
