Simon Says… Keep Your Eyes on Jesus

Scripture: “Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith…”Hebrews 12:2
This week during our children’s Bible study, we played a simple game of Simon Says.
Most of us have played it. If Simon says, “Touch your nose,” you touch your nose. If Simon doesn’t say it and you move anyway, you’re out. As I watched the children laugh, listen carefully, and do their best to follow every instruction, I realized there was a lesson for all of us.
Walking with Jesus is much like that.
Every day there are countless voices competing for our attention. The world tells us what success looks like. Our emotions tell us to react. Fear tells us to retreat. Pride tells us we know best. If we listen to every voice around us, it doesn’t take long before we lose our direction.
The writer of Hebrews gives us the answer: “Fix your eyes on Jesus.”
When our eyes are fixed on Him, our ears become more attentive to His voice. Our hearts become more sensitive to His leading. Our steps become more aligned with His will. We learn not just to hear Jesus but to follow Him.
The hard truth is that none of us follows perfectly.
There are moments when we get distracted. We listen to the wrong voices. We take a few steps in the wrong direction. We stumble. We fail.
But here is the beautiful difference between the children’s game and walking with Jesus.
In Simon Says, when you make a mistake, you’re out.
In the Kingdom of God, when we make a mistake, we are met by grace.
Jesus doesn’t remove us from the game. He restores us to the journey. Through His mercy He forgives, through His Spirit He redirects, and through His love He invites us once again to walk beside Him. But all of this is based on our ability to seek forgiveness and experience redemption.
That is why we can keep walking with confidence. Let is why we follow closely so that nothing can come between us and our Jesus. Our faith does not depend upon perfect performance. It depends upon a perfect Savior—the Author and Perfecter of our faith.
Today, fix your eyes on Jesus. Listen for His voice. Follow where He leads. And if you stumble along the way, remember that His grace is always greater than your failure.
Prayer:
Lord Jesus, there are so many voices competing for my attention. Help me to keep my eyes fixed on You. Teach me to recognize Your voice and to follow You faithfully. And when I stumble, thank You for Your grace that picks me up, forgives me, and calls me to keep walking. Amen.
