Praying Today for Worship

“Come, let us bow down in worship, let us kneel before the Lord our Maker.” — Psalm 95:6

On this Sunday morning, May we be praying for worship.

We pray for every place where God’s people gather—in large sanctuaries and small country churches, around kitchen tables and hospital beds, in living rooms and prayer rooms. We pray for worship wherever we bow to pray, rise to praise, or pause to listen.

Worship is more than the songs we sing or the words we speak. Worship is the surrender of our whole lives to God. It is acknowledging that He is Lord and that we belong to Him.

When we bow to pray, we humble ourselves before God. We bring Him our joys, burdens, sins, fears, and hopes. We do not have to hide anything from Him. He already knows our hearts, yet He lovingly invites us to draw near.

When we rise to praise, we remember who God is. He is faithful when life feels uncertain. He is good when the road becomes difficult. He is worthy of our praise—not only because of what He has done, but because of who He is.

When we pause to listen, we make room for the Holy Spirit to speak. Sometimes we come to worship with so much to say that we forget to become still. Yet worship also means listening for God’s direction, receiving His correction, and allowing Him to reshape our desires.

Jesus taught us to pray:

“Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven.” — Matthew 6:10

Those words must become more than something we recite. They are words of surrender. They mean, “Lord, I release my plans, my preferences, and my need to remain in control. Lead me according to Your will.”

When the final hymn has been sung and the benediction has been spoken, worship is not finished. We carry it with us. We take it into our homes, workplaces, schools, businesses, communities, and relationships.

May “Thy will be done” be more than the prayer we speak while gathered. May it be what we leave with as we depart to face the world.

May we leave ready to forgive, serve, encourage, witness, and love. May the worship offered with our lips become obedience lived through our hands and feet. May those who encounter us see evidence that we have been in the presence of Jesus.

Prayer

Lord, today we pray for worship wherever Your people gather. Meet us as we bow to pray, rise to praise, and pause to listen. Quiet every distraction and turn our hearts toward You. May our worship be sincere, our praise be joyful, and our surrender be complete.

As we depart to face the world, let this remain upon our hearts: Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done. Help us live as people who have truly worshiped You. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
